José Luis Cuentas, also known as DJ Pepe, is an “apasionado” – as a musician, singer and DJ. He played and sang in different salsa bands until the year 2003. His carrier as DJ Pepe began in Biel, Switzerland in 1999. Today he is asked for on the international scene. Not only the newest hits land on his turntables. DJ Pepe says: “We shouldn’t forget the old Latin-American musicians and composers. That is why I also play a lot of tracks from the 60s and 70s.” And he does it with great success!

DJ Pepe knows his trade from scratch. His musical background, his technical flair, and his passion for Latin-American music make him a pro. He has gigs all over Switzerland, in Europe and the rest of the world. Whether he is playing at the Salsamania at the X-TRA club in Zurich, at the Allegra-Club in Basel, or at festivals in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Poland, or Puerto Rico, his fans always get what they want!

His first album was recorded in 1988 when he played and sang for Sexteto Tiempo, a very popular band in Bolivia. Gigs in and outside the country followed. From 1991 to 2003 José continued his carrier in Switzerland. He had various performances as a guitar player first, and later as the guest or lead singer of various salsa bands, some of which belong to the most famous in the country.

Dj Toni (Peru)
DJ Toni's style varies from New York Salsa-Dura, Puerto Rican,Cuban and Old school 50's, 60's, 70's Mambo, Guaguanco, Son, but he is equally comfortable playing other genres. His signature is his amazing ability to read the crowd, knowing when to play the right salsa grooves and when to switch it up to other genres to keep the crowd pleased and entertained. He is a favourite among event organizers, dancers and music-lovers for his talents as a DJ, his integrity with his work and his sociability.

Antonio Casquino “Dj Toni", was raised around music, the sea, and humble people in his native Callao, Peru. Since his exposure to some of the greatest Mambo/Salsa tunes of all times, dancing was his passion. He then wanted other dancers to feel and enjoy the music the same way he did. This marked the beginning of his career as “DJ Toni”.

Dj Samy (BS)
Samael Agreda (DJ Samy) ist 1982 in Bolivien La Paz geboren. Den grossteil seines Lebens verbrachte er in der Schweiz (Basel). DJ Samy’s DJ-Karriere begann mit 15 Jahren in der Kuppel, Basel. Dort sind seine Salsaloca-Abende bis heute beliebter Treffpunkt unzähliger Tanzbegeisterter Salseros und Salseras. Seine Inspiration zum Salsa-DJ entstammt seiner grossen Leidenschaft für die gesamte Latino Musik. Sein musikalisches Wissen erlernte DJ Samy schon als kleiner Junge, indem er sich lange mit klassischer Musik und später mit Jazz auseinandersetzte. Im Jahr 2000 entdeckte er seine zweite große Leidenschaft: KUBA. Die entscheidende Begeisterung wurde bei ihm durch „Septeto Nacional de Ignacio Pineiro“ geweckt. In Kuba besuchte er diverse Musikschulen und nahm selbst Unterricht in Perkussion und Komposition bei dem Schlagzeuger vom Chucho Vadez Quardet, „Ranzes“. Er leitete ein Jahr lang die Salsaband „Contra el viento“ in Basel und gibt mittlerweile selbst Unterricht.
Je mehr DJ Samy sich mit Salsa-Musik auseinandersetzt, desto grösser werden seine Leidenschaft für diese Musikrichtung und die Motivation für neue Projekte: als nächstes die Salsa-Szenen von Puerto Rico und New York kennen zu lernen. DJ Samy ist auf gutem Weg einer der bekanntesten SALSA DJS der Schweiz zu werden, Dieses Jahr legt er unter anderem am Caliente Festival Schweiz auf, am Salsafestival Swtzerland, am Fiesta Candela und besucht unter anderem die Festivals von Hamburg.
